Memorials made from ashes

An East German nostalgia farewell

An East German nostalgia farewell

About this experience

An East German nostalgia farewell

For lovers of the GDR and their families The idea of socialism in the GDR may be highly controversial, but the happy memories that some people associate with this particular part of German history are not. Some are also still fascinated by the look of the period and its background, whether its design, colours, technology or architecture. For so-called "Ostalgiker", we have created a concept in which every guest can experience a piece of their own personal GDR history first-hand. Although the politics and, above all, their consequences were controversial, not everyone suffered directly under them. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, many people found it difficult to gain a foothold and find a place in the cut-throat society of the FRG. Many former GDR citizens had immense difficulty with the age of time cards and clocking-in machines, as well as the FRG's new capitalist culture of competition. The deceased person's memories of "their GDR", and genuine sentimentality, are guaranteed to move the bereaved on this special day.

What people say

Translated from the original German

"Losing someone you love is very painful. Being able to design the coffin ourselves, together with the professional support we received, helped us enormously and made the death a little easier to comprehend. Thank you to your entire team."

Hildegard Wünsche

"At last someone is standing up to our outdated funeral regulations. Wonderful. Keep it up!"

Christian Dauert

"We had never experienced a funeral as beautiful as our father's. The service was tailored precisely to his wishes, and his personality was evident in every second of the ceremony. Our heartfelt thanks."
