German Unity Day ceremony

About this experience

German Unity Day ceremony

"Germany’s happiest day." – Sabine Bergmann-Pohl On 3 October 1989, it was finally official: East and West Germany were reunited. Many people had suffered for a long time. There were so-called death zones along the borders, the GDR was in dire economic circumstances and many fled to the Federal Republic through Czechia. In 1989, 45 years after the end of the Second World War, citizens finally had a Germany reconciled with itself. The whole country was part of this historic event. These were days and nights of farewell and new beginnings, with moving ceremonies and joyful public festivals, and many people still look back fondly on those emotional moments. The celebrations have remained precious to those who could hardly believe their happiness that day, whose long period of suffering had finally ended and who felt genuine freedom for the very first time. We created this concept for anyone who wants to say goodbye in this spirit and pay tribute once more to the moment of German unity during their funeral service. It is about gratitude for a personal happy ending as well as appreciation for the life story of the person who has died. If wished, we can arrange suitable keynote speakers, hold the ceremony beside surviving sections of the Wall or recreate these moving moments with improvisational performers. We organise everything from beginning to end with care and attention to detail for you and your family.
