About this experience

Gothic Goodbye

“From sunset until dawn, I celebrate death.”– Gothic quotation Gothic culture emerged from punk and new wave in the early 80s. During the 1980s and 1990s, it existed as part of the dark-wave movement and became the focal point of the so-called dark scene up to the turn of the millennium. Its themes include death and the transience of all things, particularly human life. The scene therefore has a strong and often philosophical awareness of life's darker side. We engage with these themes and are pleased to introduce them to the family and friends of the person who has died. We ensure that the whole funeral service reflects the aesthetic of the post-punk subculture, organising a funeral in keeping with the Goth’s outlook. If desired, we arrange a live band to play favourite songs by “The Southern Death Cult”, for example, or music from other parts of the gothic, metal and grunge scenes. The pronounced individuality of the person who has died should remain clear during their funeral. We can also travel with friends and family to Leipzig in their honour for the annual “Wave Gothic Treffen”. There, the Gothic community can share the farewell at the famous Victorian picnic in Clara-Zetkin-Park or through an underground funeral ceremony in the cellar of the Pleißenburg. We also offer traditional vault burials for the immediate family. Image sources include: Pinterest
