Solstice ceremony

All fired up

About this experience

All fired up

The summer solstice, or Midsummer, is celebrated extensively and extravagantly, particularly in Scandinavian countries. Large fires are often lit. In Denmark and Norway, on Sankt Hans, the eve of St John’s Day, a straw witch is also burnt. The custom is intended to drive away all evil symbolically. In Estonia, too, a large fire that burns throughout the night forms the centre of the celebration. On the islands, burning boats that are no longer in use is part of the tradition. The summer solstice is celebrated in similar ways in Finland and Latvia. Germany also marks the summer solstice. As in the Scandinavian countries, large fires are lit and people dance around them on St John’s Eve. This custom has been recorded since the 12th century. It is believed to ward off evil spirits that might cause illness or harm livestock, as well as severe weather. In some areas, straw figures are also thrown into the fire during the custom known as Hanslverbrennen. Together, we light the fire and celebrate one final summer solstice for the person you love, with energy and emotion. Alongside fire, music and dancing, we offer a large feast in the heart of nature and cook everything over an open flame. The occasion can bring together a suitable setting, summer decorations, an impressive fire, music, food and drinks. Please contact us to discuss a personal ceremony and its possibilities.
