Give your family clarity and spare them difficult decisions
An advance decision allows you to set out in advance which medical care you would and would not want in an emergency if you could no longer communicate with a doctor. Ordinarily, you can simply tell your doctor whether you consent to an operation or certain medication. But what happens if you can no longer speak for yourself, for example because you are in a coma? Your doctor and family would then have to make decisions for you, often with serious consequences. To spare your family this conflict, you can make many choices in advance, including through the LIFE ID advance-decision feature in its practical app. There is no longer any need to lose or search for the document: it can be kept on your smartphone and made available for emergencies through a QR code on your health-insurance card. This medical planning document lets you record your wishes for future treatment, stating which treatments you would and would not want in particular circumstances. You can also specify which health effects resulting from medical treatment you would accept and which you would not, including refusing unwanted interventions. Doctors can access the document quickly through the QR code on your health-insurance card. An advance decision is binding on your doctors as though you had expressed your wishes verbally. It can therefore reassure you and your family that your wishes can be respected, while also giving the clinicians treating you clear guidance.
